Erna Bodenstein

Bio

Erna Bodenstein is a visual artist and an art educator who lives in Pretoria, South-Africa. She completed her BA (FA) in 1980 and her MA (FA) in 1998. Both degrees were obtained from The University of Pretoria. Her career as an educator started in 1981 when she joined the staff at the Department of fine Arts at The University of Pretoria, where she lectured in drawing and other subjects and primarily in Printmaking. From 1994 she lived in both Barcelona, Spain and South-Africa for a number of years and continued to produce art and exhibit in both countries, while teaching part-time at The University of Pretoria between her travels to Spain and various other countries. Throughout the years, she also held part-time teaching positions at The Open Window Institute for Arts and digital sciences and Tshwane University of Technology, Department of Fine and Studio Arts. Faculty of Arts and Design. She currently works as an artist and as a part-time lecturer in Printmaking at Tshwane University of Technology. Erna has produced more than 15 solo exhibitions, four of which were in Barcelona, Spain. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, both locally and internationally since 1981. The artist's works have been taken up in a number of public collections, namely The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), University of Pretoria, University of South-Africa and The Pretoria Art Museum.
